One Day Trek to Bhavar Kada Waterfalls (Activity)

On 25th July 2025, I went for a trek to and from Bhavar Kada waterfalls. The trek was done in the middle of a dense jungle with additional complication of heavy rain and slippery paths. Some of them were so steep that ropes had to be used for support, both physical ability and mental tolerance were challenged. This trek was a test of tolerance and put my fitness level to hitherto unknown limits.

Learning Outcomes Achieved

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

This trek exposed strengths I didn’t know I had—particularly stamina, balance, and the ability to stay composed under stress. At the same time, it highlighted areas for improvement such as endurance during steep climbs and mental preparedness for unpredictable natural conditions. This awareness will help me plan future fitness goals.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken and skills developed

The jungle terrain was extremely challenging due to the combination of rain, mud, and sharp slopes. Navigating rope sections taught me new skills such as using body weight effectively, safe footing on slippery surfaces, and controlled breathing to stay steady. I also developed better risk assessment skills by learning when to slow down and when to push through.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

This trek required deliberate planning. I had to prepare physically through regular workouts and ensure proper gear, rain protection, hydration, and safety equipment. I assessed the route, checked weather forecasts, and coordinated timings with the group. This level of planning strengthened my ability to independently organize future activities.

LO4: Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences

There were moments when the slippery paths and fatigue made me want to stop, especially during the steep rope climbs. But I kept moving with determination. Continuing despite discomfort, fear, and exhaustion made me understand how powerful perseverance is—both in trekking and in life.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Hiking in such conditions made teamwork essential. We shared ropes, helped each other with grips, and checked for safe foot placements. I learned the importance of clear communication, supportive behavior, and trust while moving as a group in difficult terrain. Collaboration kept us safe and motivated.

LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance

The dense jungle and the force of the waterfall reminded me of the importance of conserving natural ecosystems. Walking through untouched forest areas reinforced how essential it is to maintain biodiversity, prevent littering, and respect natural habitats. I consciously ensured that my actions had minimum environmental impact.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and action

Trekking in a sensitive ecosystem during the monsoon demanded responsible decision-making. I avoided damaging vegetation, stayed on designated paths, and made sure no waste was left behind. I also respected the safety of group members by not taking reckless shortcuts. Ethical behaviour was crucial for both environmental protection and team safety.

Conclusion

This trek to Bhavar Kada Waterfalls was more than a physical journey—it was a significant stepping stone in my CAS journey. I discovered new strengths, overcame challenges, enhanced my teamwork and planning skills, and deepened my respect for nature. The experience pushed my physical and mental boundaries to hitherto unknown limits, making it one of the most memorable CAS activities I have completed.
