Service 1: University fair volunteering (16/1/26)

I volunteered at the University Fair as part of my Service component in CAS, where my role involved assisting with event management, guiding visitors, coordinating logistics, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the fair. The purpose of the event was to connect students with university representatives and provide them with information about higher education opportunities. Through this experience, I aimed to contribute responsibly to an event that plays an important role in shaping students’ academic futures.

Learning Outcome 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While volunteering, I became aware of the ethical responsibility involved in managing an event related to students’ futures. It was important to provide accurate information, guide attendees honestly, and treat all participants equally regardless of their academic background or interests. Even small actions—such as giving clear directions or responding respectfully—could influence someone’s experience. This ethical responsibility affected me directly, as my behavior contributed to the professionalism and fairness of the event. Before this activity, I saw volunteering mainly as helping with tasks. However, I realized that in events like a university fair, ethical conduct—fairness, honesty, and respect—is crucial because decisions about higher education can significantly impact a person’s life. This experience strengthened my understanding that service requires integrity and awareness of how our actions affect others.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Managing the university fair required coordination with teachers, fellow volunteers, and university representatives. Teamwork was essential to ensure smooth registration, organized movement of visitors, and timely communication. Working collaboratively in a structured environment was sometimes challenging due to the fast-paced nature of the event, but it taught me the importance of clear communication and shared responsibility. I learned that when everyone fulfills their role efficiently, large-scale events function successfully. This experience reinforced the value of cooperation and collective effort in service-based activities.

Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Volunteering at the fair required consistent attention, energy, and patience throughout the event. There were moments when the environment became busy and slightly overwhelming, but staying calm and committed was necessary to maintain organization. Balancing this responsibility with my academic workload also required discipline. Remaining dedicated throughout the event taught me the importance of perseverance and reliability. Commitment in service activities is important because others depend on your responsibility and consistency.

Conclusion

Volunteering at the University Fair was a meaningful service experience that strengthened my sense of responsibility, teamwork, and ethical awareness. It helped me understand that service is not just about completing tasks, but about acting with integrity and considering how your actions affect others. This experience has made me more mindful, accountable, and appreciative of the role volunteers play in creating supportive and fair environments.
