Spark Tank ( creativity)

For my CAS creativity experience, I participated in a Spark Tank activity where my team and I developed and pitched an innovative idea of installing protein powder vending machines outside gyms and in public areas. The purpose of this experience was to use creativity and business thinking to design a practical solution that promotes health and convenience. I was interested in exploring entrepreneurship and understanding how ideas can be transformed into real-world solutions. This activity also allowed me to improve my teamwork, communication, and presentation skills. Since the experience involved brainstorming, planning, and pitching, I hoped to develop confidence, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through this experience, I identified that one of my strengths is creative thinking. I was able to contribute innovative ideas, such as suggesting different protein flavors and suitable locations for vending machines. I also realized that I am confident when sharing ideas within a group. However, I discovered that I need to improve my public speaking skills, as I initially felt nervous while presenting in front of others. This experience helped me recognize this area for growth, and I am now more motivated to practice presenting confidently in future opportunities.

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

One challenge I faced was creating a business idea that was both unique and practical. At first, it was difficult to think of a solution that would be useful and realistic. Additionally, presenting the idea clearly and confidently was challenging. Through teamwork, research, and practice, I developed new skills such as brainstorming effectively, structuring a business pitch, and communicating ideas clearly. This experience improved my confidence and taught me how to approach problems with creative and logical thinking.

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

This experience required careful planning and organization. My team and I initiated the idea by identifying a problem, which was the lack of convenient access to protein supplements after workouts. We then planned our solution by deciding the product, flavors, target audience, and locations for the vending machines. We also planned how to present our idea effectively during the Spark Tank pitch. This helped me understand the importance of planning and organization in turning an idea into a structured proposal.

Learning Outcome 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experiences

During the brainstorming and preparation stages, it was sometimes difficult to refine our idea and ensure that it was practical and well-presented. However, I remained committed to improving the concept and contributing to my team. I stayed engaged throughout the process, from idea development to the final presentation. This experience taught me that perseverance and consistent effort are necessary to successfully complete a creative project.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Teamwork was an essential part of this experience. I worked closely with my teammates to develop and improve our idea. We shared different perspectives, divided responsibilities, and supported each other during the preparation and presentation. This helped me understand the importance of collaboration, listening to others, and respecting different viewpoints. Working as a team made our idea stronger and improved the overall quality of our pitch.

Learning Outcome 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While developing our idea, we considered the ethical responsibility of promoting safe and healthy products. We focused on providing protein supplements that support health and fitness rather than encouraging unhealthy or misleading practices. We also considered the importance of transparency, quality, and consumer safety. This experience helped me understand that business ideas should not only be profitable but also responsible and beneficial for people’s well-being.
