As part of the University Fair held at Fountainhead School on 16th January 2026, I volunteered to support the organization and management of the event. The University Fair brought together representatives from different universities to interact with students and provide guidance about higher education opportunities. As a volunteer, my main responsibility was to welcome the university representatives, greet them warmly, and guide them to their designated venues, ensuring they felt comfortable and well-oriented throughout the event.
Before the event, all volunteers attended a briefing meeting on 15th January 2026 where we were given instructions and assigned our specific responsibilities. This meeting helped us understand the structure of the event and how to assist the visiting university representatives effectively. On the day of the fair, volunteers reported early at 7:40 am and gathered at the Rendezvous (Assembly) to complete final preparations.
My role specifically involved greeting university representatives with a positive attitude and guiding them to their assigned stalls or venues. I ensured they felt welcomed and supported from the moment they arrived. By doing this, I contributed to creating a friendly and organized environment for the event.
LO1: Identify own strengths and areas for growth
This experience helped me recognize my strength in communication and interpersonal skills. Greeting representatives and interacting with new people made me realize that I am confident and approachable. However, I also identified an area for growth in becoming more aware of directions and event layouts so I could guide people even more efficiently without hesitation.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
A challenge I faced was managing situations where multiple representatives arrived at the same time and required guidance. I had to remain calm, attentive, and organized while ensuring each person was assisted properly. This helped me develop better time management, multitasking, and situational handling skills.
LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Although the event was organized by the school, I took initiative by familiarizing myself with the event layout and stall arrangements beforehand. This preparation helped me guide the representatives more effectively and ensured that I could perform my role confidently.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The event required consistent energy and attentiveness throughout. From arriving early to welcoming multiple guests over time, I remained committed to my role. Despite the repetitive nature of greeting and guiding, I maintained enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The event required strong teamwork between volunteers. We supported each other by guiding representatives together and stepping in when someone needed help. This collaborative effort ensured that all guests were attended to smoothly and efficiently.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance
The University Fair emphasized the importance of education and global opportunities. By interacting with representatives from various universities, I observed how students can access diverse educational pathways. This experience highlighted the role of education in shaping global perspectives and future careers.
Overall Reflection
Volunteering at the University Fair 2026 was a meaningful experience. It allowed me to contribute by creating a welcoming environment for university representatives. Through this role, I strengthened my communication, confidence, and teamwork skills. Overall, it showed me how small responsibilities, such as greeting and guiding others, can significantly impact the success of a large event.
