“FS Got Talent” is one of the most exciting events in our school, where students step onto the stage to showcase their talents through music, dance, comedy, and creativity. It celebrates confidence, participation, and self-expression, and being part of such an energetic environment instantly pushed me beyond my comfort zone. This year, I performed a dance routine with my partner in front of a large audience, something I never imagined I would feel confident doing before and through this experience, I developed greater confidence, stronger commitment, and a deeper appreciation for collaboration.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Participating in FS Got Talent was both challenging and eye-opening. I started with stage fear and little confidence in my dancing, but preparing and performing the routine pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I discovered strengths I didn’t expect such as creativity, commitment, and the ability to perform under pressure. At the same time, I realised I still need to work on my coordination and stage confidence. This experience taught me that real growth happens when you face your fears and try something unfamiliar.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken
Dance is not something I usually do, and I am not an expert in it, which made this experience genuinely challenging. Learning a proper dance routine from scratch required significant effort, especially when it came to remembering all the steps, mastering the movements, and staying in sync with my partner. In addition to this, I have stage fear, so the idea of performing in front of such a large audience was daunting at first. With that, maintaining facial and body expressions while dancing demanded both physical and mental effort, and with every beat of the song, I had to consciously manage my focus, posture, and performance quality. However, through consistent practice and determination, I gradually became more comfortable and confident. However, on the day of the event, the performance didn’t go perfectly. The beginning of our dance went really well, but when the music shifted to the next song, I suddenly forgot my position and ended up standing on the side where my partner was supposed to be. For a moment, I felt completely embarrassed and panicked because I knew the audience could probably notice but instead of freezing I quickly adjusted, moved back to the correct position, and continued dancing. That moment taught me a lot. It showed me how important it is to stay calm under pressure and not give up just because of a mistake. Even though it was uncomfortable, I confidently handled the situation and finished the dance performance till the end.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
During the preparation for FS Got Talent, my partner and I spent a lot of time planning and shaping our dance performance together. Instead of following a ready-made routine, we wanted the performance to feel like something that truly belonged to us. We chose the songs carefully, thinking about the emotions and energy they carried, and then began creating our own choreography to match them. While planning the routine, we discussed how the dance would look from the audience’s perspective. We experimented with different movements, positions, and transitions between the two songs to make the performance flow smoothly. Some ideas worked well immediately, while others didn’t feel right, so we kept adjusting and trying again until we found movements that felt natural and meaningful for both of us. This process required a lot of creativity and teamwork. We had to listen to each other’s ideas, make changes, and support one another when something was difficult to perform. Through this experience, I realised how much thought, effort, and organisation goes into creating a performance from the beginning. It made me appreciate the creative process behind dance and helped me feel more connected to the performance because it was something we had built ourselves.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
I showcased my commitment throughout the event, through the dance performance as there were moments where the dance rehearsals felt really exhausting and practicing it along with the school projects was really exasperated. Additionally, to perfect the dance moves and prepare for the whole 2 songs, me and my dance partners often practiced outside school hours, used my leisure and study time, and sometimes even rehearsed till late night to learn dance moves finely. I had to repeat the same sequences multiple times to get them right just like my partner, and it was really frustrating when the dance moves were not coming naturally and to try again and again till it came out smoothly. I chose to stay and push through it with all my best efforts and trust the process. Thereafter, standing confidently on stage was proof that the effort was worth it.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
I collaborated with my friend throughout this dance experience which made it an even more enjoyable experience. My partner is a more experienced dancer than me, and she encouraged me to participate in this event, helping me step out of my comfort zone. There were times when one of us felt less confident with certain steps, so we helped each other out and practiced those parts more patiently. Sometimes we had different ideas about how a move should look or when a transition should happen, but instead of letting that affect our performance, we learned to focus on what was best for the dance routine to be presented on stage. This taught me that collaboration is not always easy, but it is extremely valuable. By the end, our performance felt strong not because we were perfect individually, but because we understood each other’s timing, supported one another, and worked towards the same goal.
To sum it up, participating in FS Got Talent turned out to be a genuinely meaningful experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to challenge myself, try something new, and grow beyond my comfort zone in a supportive environment. The process of preparing and performing taught me the importance of consistency, confidence, and cooperation. Overall, this experience has left me with greater self-belief and a stronger sense of discipline, which I will carry forward into future experiences.
