Being part of the organising committee for the Fountainhead School Model United Nations (FSMUN) was an enriching CAS creativity experience. As a member of the decor committee, my responsibility was to contribute to the visual preparation of the event and help create a professional conference environment for the delegates. For nearly one and a half months, our team attended early-in-sessions before school to prepare decorations such as country flags, buntings, letters, and delegate kits. Although the preparation process was tiring at times, it was also a very enjoyable journey that helped me learn the importance of teamwork, organisation, and commitment in executing a large school event successfully.
LO3: Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Planning was an essential aspect of the decor committee’s work. Before starting the decoration process, we had to discuss what materials were required and how we would divide the tasks among members. Our OC heads guided us in organising the work so that everything would be completed before the conference. We also had to consider factors such as time management and coordination between different decoration tasks. Through this process, I realised how careful planning contributes significantly to the success of large-scale events.
LO4: Show Perseverance and Commitment
Preparing decorations for FSMUN required consistency and dedication over a long period of time. For almost one and a half months, I attended every early-in session and participated actively in the work assigned to me. There were moments when the repetitive tasks such as cutting paper or assembling materials felt tiring. However, I continued to stay committed because I understood that every small contribution played a role in the overall success of the event.
LO5: Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Teamwork was a crucial part of this experience. The decor committee consisted of many members who had to work together to complete different tasks efficiently. Some members focused on cutting flags, while others prepared buntings, letters, or delegate kits. By communicating and supporting one another, we were able to complete the work much faster and maintain a positive working environment. This experience strengthened my ability to collaborate effectively with others.
LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
FSMUN itself is an event that focuses on global issues and international cooperation. Although my role was within the decor team, I still contributed to an event that encouraged students to discuss important global topics such as peace, diplomacy, and sustainability. Supporting such initiatives helps promote awareness about global challenges and the importance of dialogue between nations.
Overall, my experience as part of the FSMUN decor committee was both challenging and rewarding. It taught me valuable lessons about planning, teamwork, and perseverance while contributing to a meaningful academic event within my school community.
