Personal Sport (PS) : Badminton

Introduction: This CAS experience focuses on my regular participation in personal sports through badminton at school. Badminton is not only a physical activity for me but also a way to maintain a healthy lifestyle, manage academic stress, and build personal discipline. Through consistent practice, match play, and reflection, this experience allows me to improve both my physical abilities and personal skills such as perseverance, teamwork, and self-awareness. Over time, this activity has helped me understand the importance of balance between academics, physical health, and mental well-being, which aligns strongly with the aims of CAS.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth – Through playing badminton regularly, I became aware of my strengths such as stamina, speed, and hand-eye coordination. At the same time, I identified areas that needed improvement, including shot accuracy, footwork, and consistency during matches. By reflecting on my performance after each session, I was able to set realistic goals and work actively on improving weaker areas.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken and skills developed –
Badminton challenged me physically and mentally. Initially, maintaining endurance during long matches and coping with losses was difficult. However, through continuous practice, I developed better techniques, improved my fitness level, and learned to stay focused under pressure. Over time, I became more confident in my skills and more comfortable facing challenges rather than avoiding them.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
I took initiative by choosing badminton as my CAS activity and planning regular practice sessions around my academic schedule. I set personal goals such as improving stamina, learning new techniques, and practicing consistently. This planning helped me stay committed to the experience and manage my time effectively between schoolwork and physical activity.

LO4: Show commitment and perseverance
This CAS experience required long-term commitment. Even on days when I felt tired or busy with studies, I continued attending practice sessions. There were moments of slow progress and frustration, but I learned to persevere and remain dedicated. This consistency helped me understand the value of discipline and effort over time.

LO5: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Through this activity, I engaged with the global issue of health and well-being. In today’s fast-paced and screen-dependent lifestyle, physical activity is essential for both physical and mental health. By actively participating in badminton, I promoted a healthy lifestyle and recognized the importance of regular exercise in reducing stress and maintaining overall well-being.

LO6: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Badminton allowed me to interact with peers during practice sessions and matches. I learned how to cooperate, communicate, and respect others while playing. Whether it was doubles matches or group practice drills, working with others helped me improve teamwork skills and understand the importance of mutual support and encouragement.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions –
While playing badminton, I practiced ethical behavior such as fair play, honesty, and respect for opponents, teammates, and officials. I learned to accept decisions calmly, win with humility, and lose with grace. This experience helped me understand the importance of sportsmanship and ethical conduct in both sports and daily life.

Conclusion:
Overall, this CAS experience in badminton has been a meaningful and enriching journey. It helped me improve my physical fitness while also developing important personal qualities such as discipline, perseverance, reflection, and teamwork. Through this experience, I learned how physical activity contributes to a balanced lifestyle and mental well-being. The lessons I gained from this CAS activity extend beyond sports and will continue to influence my academic life and personal growth in the future.
