
Participating in the rock-climbing activity was an opportunity to challenge myself through a physically demanding experience that required focus, determination, and perseverance. The activity involved climbing routes of varying difficulty while applying proper techniques and safety procedures. It encouraged me to step beyond familiar activities and develop both physical and mental resilience.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
This experience helped me recognise my strengths in maintaining focus and remaining determined while completing each climb. At the same time, I identified areas where I could improve, such as refining my climbing technique, improving balance, and making more efficient decisions while navigating different routes. Reflecting on these aspects allowed me to better understand how continuous practice contributes to personal growth.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Rock climbing introduced me to a new physical challenge that required me to develop skills I had not previously practised. Throughout the activity, I learned how to use climbing techniques effectively, maintain balance, and plan my movements carefully before progressing. The experience demonstrated that developing new skills requires patience, adaptability, and consistent effort.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Completing each climb required persistence and concentration, particularly when the routes became more demanding. Rather than rushing, I remained committed to applying the techniques I had learned and continued working towards completing each challenge. This experience reinforced the importance of perseverance, discipline, and maintaining focus when working towards a goal.
This experience helped me develop several IB Learner Profile attributes. As a Risk-Taker, I embraced a new physical challenge and approached unfamiliar climbing routes with determination and responsibility. I demonstrated the qualities of a Balanced learner by engaging in an activity that promoted physical well-being while recognising the importance of safety and preparation. I also became more Reflective by evaluating my climbing techniques and identifying areas for improvement after each attempt. Additionally, I developed as a Thinker by planning my movements carefully and selecting effective routes to complete each climb.
Overall, rock climbing was a rewarding experience that strengthened my resilience, perseverance, and problem-solving skills. It demonstrated the value of preparation, patience, and determination when overcoming challenges. The experience encouraged me to continue exploring new activities that promote both personal growth and physical well-being while reinforcing the importance of maintaining focus and learning from every attempt.
