Volunteering at university fair

Introduction: In Term 2, I volunteered at the university fair organized in my school, where representatives from different universities visited to guide students about higher education opportunities. My role was to welcome the guests, guide them to the breakfast venue, ensure they were comfortable, and remain available throughout the event in case they needed any assistance.

LO4: Show commitment to, and perseverance in, CAS experiences – Throughout the event, I made sure I stayed fully present and responsible. Even though there were moments when I felt tired from standing for long periods, I reminded myself that I had committed to this role. I stayed alert so that if any guest needed assistance, I could respond immediately. Volunteering required patience and consistency. I understood that commitment is not just about signing up for something, but about performing your duty properly until the end. This experience strengthened my sense of discipline and responsibility.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively – The university fair was only successful because everyone worked together. I collaborated with other student volunteers to guide guests smoothly and avoid confusion. We communicated with each other about which guests had arrived and who needed assistance. If someone was busy, another volunteer stepped in to help. This made me realize how important teamwork is in organizing events. Even though each of us had small tasks, together we created a welcoming and organized atmosphere. I learned that cooperation and communication make any group effort stronger.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance – This experience connected to the importance of education in today’s world. University fairs help students explore opportunities and make informed decisions about their futures. Education plays a major role globally in shaping careers and improving quality of life. By volunteering at this event, I contributed in a small way to supporting access to information about higher education. It made me realize that even local school events can connect to bigger global goals like promoting quality education.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions – During the fair, I understood that my behavior reflected not only me but also my school. I made sure to greet guests politely, speak respectfully, and assist them patiently. I treated all representatives equally and followed instructions carefully. I learned that ethical behavior is shown through small actions — being respectful, responsible, and honest. This experience reminded me that professionalism and kindness are important in any service role.

Conclusion: Overall, volunteering at the university fair was a simple yet meaningful experience for me. It helped me develop responsibility, teamwork, and better communication skills. I also became more aware of how education connects to larger global opportunities. Most importantly, I learned that even small acts of service can make a difference when done with sincerity and commitment. This experience encouraged me to take future service opportunities more seriously and contribute positively whenever I can.
