Hindi immersion – Creativity

For my CAS experience under the “Creativity” strand, I participated in the Hindi Immersion event organized in school. The event included a variety of performances such as classical dance, drama, and poem recitation—all promoting the Hindi language and Indian culture. I was part of the organizing team and also served as a host, introducing segments and engaging with the audience. My goals were to contribute to the smooth flow of the event, practice leadership and communication skills, and promote the importance of language and cultural identity among students. I also wanted to grow in confidence while public speaking.

Reflection Based on Learning Outcomes

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Commitment was crucial in ensuring the event’s success. From attending multiple rehearsals to practicing my hosting lines repeatedly, I had to remain dedicated despite my academic workload. At times, the preparation felt overwhelming, but my perseverance helped me stay consistent and confident on the final day. Hosting in front of a large audience also tested my focus and composure, but the commitment to making the event successful pushed me through. I now recognize that perseverance and dedication not only strengthen the outcome but also build resilience and confidence in myself.

LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The event highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting language and culture, which is an issue of global significance. Around the world, many languages are disappearing, and with them, traditions and heritage. By celebrating Hindi through performances and speeches, we contributed to the global movement of cultural preservation. This experience made me more aware of how local initiatives can connect to worldwide issues, and how each of us has a role in maintaining linguistic and cultural diversity. It gave me a sense of responsibility to promote my culture while respecting others.

LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
As part of the organizing team, I had to ensure that the event reflected respect for cultural values and inclusivity. For example, while finalizing the script and introductions, I had to make sure my words did not unintentionally misrepresent any performance or offend anyone’s cultural beliefs. I also learned to be fair in distributing responsibilities within the team, ensuring no one was overburdened. This taught me the ethical importance of respect, sensitivity, and equity while making choices. It reinforced the idea that in cultural events, representation and language carry ethical weight.
