LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through my role as the Emcee at the Kalakriti Inter-School Competition, I became more aware of my personal strengths and areas for growth. I recognized my strengths in confident public speaking, clear communication, stage presence, and the ability to manage the flow of a large event professionally. At the same time, I noticed that I initially experienced nervousness and a tendency to overthink small mistakes. Becoming aware of this helped me stay composed and focus on delivering my role effectively. Understanding both my strengths and weaknesses allowed me to grow in confidence and identify areas for improvement in future public-facing roles.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Being the Emcee for a large inter-school event was challenging because it required constant alertness and confidence in front of a large audience. Managing transitions, handling unexpected delays, and maintaining audience engagement throughout the day pushed me out of my comfort zone. Although I had some prior experience with public speaking, this event was far more demanding due to its scale and responsibility. I overcame these challenges by staying calm, preparing thoroughly, and thinking on my feet. Through this experience, I developed stronger improvisation skills, better time management, and greater confidence, which will be valuable in future leadership and communication roles.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
This CAS experience required careful planning and organization before the event. I prepared by understanding the event schedule, coordinating with organizers, rehearsing my script, and mentally preparing for possible changes during the program. While I consider myself a fairly organized person, initiating and planning for a role of this responsibility was challenging due to the unpredictability of live events. Through this process, I developed better planning, anticipation, and coordination skills. This experience has made me more confident in planning and initiating activities in the future and showed me the importance of preparation in ensuring smooth execution.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
This activity required strong commitment and perseverance, as hosting the event demanded sustained energy, focus, and professionalism throughout the entire day. There were moments of fatigue and pressure, especially when managing long schedules and unexpected changes, but I remained committed to fulfilling my role effectively. Staying composed despite these challenges helped me understand the importance of perseverance in achieving successful outcomes. This experience reinforced that commitment and persistence are essential qualities, particularly in leadership roles where others rely on your consistency and reliability.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Although my role placed me on stage, the success of the event depended heavily on teamwork and collaboration. I worked closely with event organizers, coordinators, technicians, and participants to ensure smooth transitions and accurate communication. At times, coordinating with multiple people under time pressure was challenging, but effective communication and mutual respect helped overcome these difficulties. This experience highlighted the importance of collaboration and leadership, as working together ensured the event ran smoothly. It reinforced the value of teamwork in achieving shared goals and managing large-scale events successfully.
LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The Kalakriti Inter-School Competition celebrated art, culture, and creative expression. Artistic platforms like this encourage young people to express ideas, preserve cultural identities, and foster mutual understanding across communities. Being part of such an event made me more aware of how creative expression contributes to global dialogue and social connection. This experience helped me appreciate the role of arts in shaping perspectives and promoting inclusivity on a broader, global level.
